Prep Academy Tutors is an in-home and online private tutoring franchise founded by Carly and Adrian Dougherty, whose founder began tutoring privately as a university student in 2000 before training in child psychology and building the company. Head office is in the Greater Toronto Area.

Tutoring covers all grades and subjects, with particular strength in mathematics, science, English and French, spanning elementary, high school and university preparation.

The defining rule of the system is that franchisees hire only certified teachers, which is the brand's main point of difference from tutoring services that use university students or unqualified tutors.

This is a home-based business with no storefront, run from a laptop and a phone, and the franchisor markets the flexibility of taking summers and March Break off. Territories operate across Canada, including Vancouver, interior British Columbia, Calgary and York Region, and the company has expanded into the United States.

Ongoing fees are an 8 percent monthly service fee and a 2 percent national branding and advertising fee. Note that the franchise fee is quoted in US dollars. Support comes from franchise developers who are themselves experienced business owners, covering client base building, lead generation, and operating and billing systems.
